Case Studies

The Votorantim Metais supplies a secure workplace for its’ workers.

A solution implemented by Acura RFID SYSTEMS increases the safety of the workers in one of the biggest mining companies in the world.

The solution delivered by ACURA RFID SYSTEMS was to increase the safety of the workers by implanting an automatic function system that did not compromise the performance of the workers.

ACURA RFID SYSTEMS

The ACURA RFID SYSTEMS came up with the solution of adapting an A-RX201 reader.

Votorantim Metais is among the top ten of the largest zinc producers in the world and it is the biggest producer of nickel in Latin America and the third largest Brazilian producer of iron. There are eight industrial units and four mines in Brazil, located at São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Goiás. Overseas, the Votorantim Metais owns the Cajarmaquilla refinery and the Milpo Miner Company, both in Peru. Also, Votorantim Metais is the major stockholder of the Acerpias Paz del Río siderurgy in Colombia.

At Fortaleza, the Minas-MG unit produces 10 thousand ton of nickel and 120 thousand ton of sulfuric acid per year. It has adopted an RFID system from ACURA to protect the workers inside the mines.

Blast Engine of Votorantim Metais

Secure zoneThe system proposed by ACURA RFID SYSTEMS was to set up a secure zone that establishes a secure traffic boundary for the workers, so there are no accidents with the blast machines. The installation of RFID readers and active tags shuts down the blast machine if a worker is within 20metres.

The design and installation included an A-RX201 reader adapted to receive two antennas customized by ACURA RFID SYSTEMS. It includes a circuit developed to activate the main key of the machine when one or more tags are read. The tags were fixed in the helmet of the workers, since it’s a compulsory use item inside the mines.
